We hope that your Easter break was great and you aren’t too bogged down by deadlines and exams. We have been hard at work shortlisting all of the nominations that have come in over the holidays and are now pleased to announce that voting is now open!
Now you may be wondering; “What took so long?” Well there have been lots of discussion going on regarding the classification of charities and the eligability of certain charities who also have a presence on campus.
In light of this, we want to ensure every charity has fair representation on campus and so have removed the charity nominations that already have a society presence. By doing this, we allow students a broader selection of charities that they can choose to donate and fundraise for throughout the year. As a result, the nominations that have been removed are:
- Cancer Research UK
- SKIP Southampton
- Engineers Without Borders UK
We have however decided to retain the nomination for Anthony Nolan, as whilst they maintain a society presence in the form of Southampton Marrow, this society is primarily for raising awareness rather than fundraising.
We have also rearranged several nominations from the local to the national/international category, due to the fact these charities have a national/international reach, with a local branch in Southampton. These charities are:
- Alzheimer’s Society
- Asthma UK
- Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation
- Disability Challenges
- Remap South Hants
- The Newman Holiday Trust
- Tools For Self Reliance
We’ve taken these decisions to ensure openness and transparency in the voting process.
Voting closes at 9pm on the 9th May, and will be announced at the RAG Awards in the Bridge that evening.
